Zadar and Split are very well connected by buses. Some routes travel along the Dalmatian coast, while others take the new Croatian highway. The travel time between the two cities varies from 2.15 to 3.5 hours, with the fastest buses being those that travel on the highway.
Tickets are quite affordable, with the average price for a one-way adult ticket around 15 Euros. Temporary campaign offers often have tickets available for 10 Euros or less. Depending on the selected bus company, you might be able to get a discount on a return ticket, as well as tickets for children below 12 years old. Tickets can be purchased at the bus station or online.
During the daytime, there are more or less departures every hour, with the earliest bus leaving around 7 a.m. and the latest departing around 7 p.m. On the busiest travel days, there can be up to 20 daily departures. All Intercity depart from the main bus station in Zadar located at the address, Ante Starcevica 1, 23000 Zadar, which is 15-20 minutes by foot from the old town.
In Split all intercity buses arrive at the main bus terminal, located next to the ferry port and train station, address is Obala Kneza Domagoja br.12, 21000 Split.
The bus travel time ranges from 2 hours and 15 minutes to about 3 hours and 30 minutes. The fastest departures travel via the highway, whereas the slower buses follow the scenic coastal road. (Note: In main summer season, delays often occur do to traffic).
A one-way adult ticket costs around 15 Euros. Round-trip tickets might have a discount if you travel with the same company. Reduced tickets for children under 12 are available from most bus companies.
The buses are quite frequent, with roughly a departure every hour during the daytime. The first departure is at 7 a.m. (on some travel days, even at 5 a.m.), and the latest departure is around 7 p.m. On the busiest summer travel days, there can be up to 20 departures.
Well, no matter where you travel in Croatia, you'll encounter scenic views! But indeed, the buses from Zadar to Split traveling along the coastal road (the slower buses) offer some really scenic views, especially as you get close to Split!
The most common amenities is WI-FI and air condition, one some departure you might additionally find power sockets.
Each passenger is allowed to bring a standard-sized suitcase for the hold, along with a backpack or a smaller bag for valuables. Normally, an additional suitcase for the hold isn't an issue, as bus companies typically account for this. Please be aware that luggage stored in the hold may incur a fee, so it's advisable to carry some Euro coins.
